Germany’s Federal Statistical Office reported that in 2024, approximately 2.2 million children and adolescents under 18 were classified as at risk of poverty. This represents 15.2% of the age group, up from 14% in 2023. Although Germany remains below the EU average of 19.3%, the increase highlights a growing social challenge. A person is considered at risk of poverty if their income is below 60% of the median net disposable income. In 2024, the poverty threshold stood at €1,381 per month for a single individual, €1,795 for a single-parent household with one child under 14, and €2,900 for a household with two adults and two children under 14.
