Freital ist eine Große Kreisstadt in der Mitte des Freistaates Sachsen, etwa neun Kilometer südwestlich vom Zentrum der Landeshauptstadt und angrenzend an Dresden gelegen. Sie ist nach der Einwohnerzahl die größte Stadt im Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge und nach der Landeshauptstadt die zweitgrößte Stadt im Ballungsraum Dresden.
