How Many Refugees Work in Germany? Facts and Figures

According to Germany’s Federal Employment Agency, by October 2025 around 799,500 refugees from traditional asylum countries (such as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan) were employed.

  • 695,000 in jobs subject to social insurance.

  • 104,500 in part-time or marginal jobs.

  • Employment rate among refugees: 50.2% (September 2025).

  • Share relying on social benefits: 41.9%.

  • Unemployment rate: 27%.

Comparison:

  • Employment rate among total population: 70.2%.

  • Employment rate among foreigners overall: 57.8%.

The data shows gradual progress in refugee integration into the labor market, though gaps remain, especially in female participation.
